I stumbled upon this interesting post from Feministing in response to a video produced by Sex Really. Does one always run the risk of alienating certain groups of people in order to make a public service announcement effective? While I am support facilitating a frank and honest discussion about sex, I was a bit taken aback by the video. I agree with Feministing in that PSA portrays a “disgusting representation of men and rehash[es] stereotypical gender roles.” What do you think?
Here is a snippet from Feministing:
So the motivation for having safe sex is that the guy you’re sleeping with is an asshole and you’re too clueless to notice? Otherwise sure, getting knocked up on accident would be no big deal!
And the best way for us to learn this is to listen to sexist, racist, homophobic “humor?”
